Angelina College’s Roadrunner women picked up valuable separation in the Region XIV conference standings with Saturday’s 3-1 win over Northeast Texas Community College, while the Roadrunner men suffered a frustrating 2-0 loss to the Eagles at Jase Magers Field in Lufkin.

Daisy de Boer scored two goals for the Roadrunner women, who won their fifth match in the last six tries to move to 4-1 in conference play while dropping the Eagles to 2-2. Currently, AC holds down the third spot in those standings.

Bety Hernandez scored just six minutes into the match, weaving through traffic on her way to sending the Roadrunner women to a 1-0 lead in the first half. Just three minutes into the second half, de Boer scored her first goal, bending a free kick from long distance. She would then add her second goal in much the same way, blasting another free kick through traffic to send AC to the 3-1 win.

The two goals from de Boer give her five scores in her last three matches.

In the nightcap, the Roadrunners created opportunities but couldn’t finish against a strong Eagle squad. NTCC’s Ronaldo Brown scored on a penalty kick in the 37th minute, and teammate Parez Bromfield tucked one away in the top left corner for the final goal.

The Roadrunner men (2-5, 1-4) will host Coastal Bend College at 5 p.m. on Friday. Both the women and men are at home on Saturday against Navarro College and Laredo College, respectively. Kickoff for the women is at 2 p.m.
