The Angelina College Lady Roadrunner softball team was a timely hit away from making it a four-game weekend sweep of Western Nebraska on Sunday.
Although the clutch hit didn’t materialize in a 7-6 loss in the opener, the Lady ‘Runners bounced back with a 10-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.
Sunday’s win, combined with Saturday’s 13-4 and 9-1wins over the Lady Cougars, left AC with three wins in the rare four-game series.
Sara Mayes bopped a three-run homer in Sunday’s nightcap. Nikki Whitehead finished with two hits and an RBI, and Riley Garrett added two hits and two runs scored. McKenna Fryar earned the pitching win, striking out 10 hitters in five innings.
Kaylee Ancelot homered in the opener.
In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, Whitehead homered twice and drove in five runs with three hits. Brette Kohring went 4-for-4 at the plate, homering and driving in four runs. Pitcher Shelby Mixon earned the win.
In the late game, Fryar again proved dominant in the circle, striking out 15 while allowing just one hit. Kohring, Mayes, Garrett and Rachel Agnello blasted homers.
The Lady Roadrunners (11-5) will host Shawnee Community College in a Tuesday doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
