Nick Wade has been saying all along he doesn’t want his teams to rely on a single player for a win.
But on Saturday, the Angelina College head coach needed every bit of Travis Henson’s efforts.
Henson finished with 28 points – hitting nine of 12 field goal attempts and three of his six three-point attempts – to lead the Roadrunners to their third straight win in conference play. AC topped Navarro College 74-57 at Shands Gymnasium.
As much as Henson’s point outburst was necessary, AC’s defense proved just as critical against a Bulldog team averaging nearly 80 points per game. The Roadrunners allowed just one Navarro player to reach double figures in scoring: Souleymane Doumbia with 11 points. For the game, the Bulldogs shot just 35 percent from the field.
To go with Henson’s 28 points, AC’s Dralyn Brown and Gwarren Douglas chipped in with 11 points each.
AC also won the board battle, collecting 44 rebounds to Navarro’s 32. Henson finished with nine rebounds, while Braxton Foreman added seven more.
The Roadrunners (6-6, 3-0) will host Lone Star College-Cy Fair at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the last game before the holiday break.
