The Angelina College Roadrunner baseball team bounced back in a big way and at just the right time.

After suffering a three-game sweep to Navarro College in the conference opener two weeks ago – games in which the ‘Runners committed several uncharacteristic mistakes – AC rebounded to sweep Bossier Parish Community College last weekend, taking the first game in Bossier City by a 13-2 score before sweeping a home doubleheader on Saturday, winning 6-4 and 8-3 behind solid pitching and clutch hitting – not to mention error-free baseball.

AC’s new-found confidence will be vital in this weekend’s series against Panola College. The Ponies currently are tied for first place in the Region XIV East Zone with a record of 18-3, 5-1. AC is tied for second place at 14-8, 3-3.

The teams will play a single, nine-inning game at AC starting on Friday. The series will resume with a Saturday doubleheader in Carthage starting at 1 p.m.

Euro Diaz leads the Roadrunners with a .377 batting average. He’s got three triples and five doubles to his credit thus far. Trent Brown and Drake Pierson are tied for the team lead in homers with three each; Pierson leads the team in RBI with 16 for the season. Rylan Meek leads the team in runs scored with 24 while hitting at a .357 clip.

On the mound, the ‘Runners likely will trot out starters Sean Bergeron (42 Ks in 24.1 innings pitched), Lance Lusk (34 Ks in 30.2 innings pitched) and Tanner Sembera (29 Ks in 31.2 innings pitched). The bullpen features Drew Shifflet and Dalton Roblin, who sport identical ERAs of 2.89. Reliever Jacob Mead has fanned 20 hitters in just 16 innings of work.

First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 3 p.m. at Roadrunner Field in Lufkin.
