Angelina College’s Roadrunner baseball team picked up three big conference wins in the past four days, sweeping a home doubleheader against Bossier Parish College on Sunday after taking the series opener in Bossier City on Thursday.
AC took Thursday’s game by a 13-2 score, with pitcher Lance Lusk going the distance and allowing a single earned run. Trent Brown and Rylan Meek homered in the game.
On Sunday, the ‘Runners rallied from a 3-0 deficit, with execution of fundamentals a key to the win.
With the scored tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth, AC’s Taylor Meaux and Alex Ashby reached base on back-to-back singles. JoJo Munoz dropped a perfect squeeze bunt between the mound and first base to plate Meaux with the go-ahead run.
The Roadrunners picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Dylan Murphy and Meaux stroked consecutive singles. Ashby bunted the runners over a base, and Brown scored Murphy with a sacrifice fly.
Sean Bergeron earned the pitching win, and Drew Shiflett pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out six in those three frames.
In Sunday’s nightcap, AC put together scoring innings via small-ball, getting three singles and three runs in the first inning, four singles and two runs in the second and a single and two doubles for three runs in the fifth.
Tanner Sembera earned the win on the mound.
The Roadrunners (14-8, 3-3) will host Panola College on Thursday for the opener of a three-game series. The series will conclude with a doubleheader in Carthage on Saturday.
Thursday’s first pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
