More than 100 former Angelina College basketball players – and a couple of legendary opponents – showed up for Saturday’s Roadrunner basketball game against San Jacinto College.
They were there for the game, of course; but the main reason some of them flew in from all around the country was to pay homage to former head coach and current athletic director Guy Davis and his wife Dorothy.
AC officials during the ceremony declared that henceforward, the Shands Gymnasium floor will be named “Guy and Dorothy Davis Court.”
Davis became AC’s head coach in 1976 and over the next 31 years compiled more than 600 wins. His 1998 team played in the national tournament in Hutchinson, KS.
Dorothy taught elementary school for 42 years. The couple has been married for 58 years.
Also on-hand were Lewis Orr, the former Navarro College head coach, and Leon Spencer, who headed Trinity Valley Community College for years.
Davis also presented former Roadrunner Eric Chatfield with his retired jersey.
